Your dollar ain’t sh_t and it’s taxed to no end

Livin’ in the new world
With an old soul
These rich men north of Richmond
Lord knows they all just wanna have total control
Wanna know what you think, wanna know what you do
And they don’t think you know, but I know that you do
‘Cause your dollar ain’t sh_t and it’s taxed to no end
‘Cause of rich men north of Richmond

By now if you haven’t heard about Oliver Anthony’s Rich Men North of Richmond viral rebel cry, you’re probably not online to even see this blog post. So, I’m not going to take time to recap what smarter and more well-written men have already shared.

But there is something that I’d like to point out. Something obvious to me, but maybe it still needs to be written.

Why, as Oliver so righteously pens, is the dollar losing its value and, at the same time, taxed to no end?

If your answer is “Biden did it” or “Trump started it” or it’s the Democrats or the Republicans or the Liberals or the Conservatives

You’re all right.

And you’re all wrong.

Of course, what Oliver is describing is Inflation of the Dollar and Taxation. Inflation is simply when the dollar loses buying power, normally seen in prices of goods, services, and labor going up and up, year over year.

So you start to wonder – Why does Inflation happen? Is it normal? How much is too much? How can it be reduced?

The origin of the 2% target, often heard by FED and other Central Bankers around the world, is actually almost accidental.  But regardless of whether the target is 2%, 4%, or 10% annualized inflation, we’ve been conditioned to simply accept that inflation is normal, necessary, and even healthy.

All lies.

Renowned economist Milton Friedman put it best.  Inflation is the result of governments, central bankers, and now even World Bankers printing currency out of thin air in order to cover their spending addiction.  Consumers, Producers, Trade Unions, Oil Imports.  None of these are responsible for Inflation because none of them can print money.   Only the government can do so.

Before you click off the clip, be sure to watch to the end, particularly after the 2:11 mark because Friedman answers the most important question — WHY does the government continue to spend and print money?

It’s because of you.  (kind of)

Friedman also once said (and I can’t seem to find the clip) that everyone is in favor of less government spending when it comes to someone else’s pet projects.  But when it comes to their own, don’t you dare cut spending.  In fact, we need more spending to fund it.

And Oliver does touch on this with his now infamous jab —

Lord, we got folks in the street, ain’t got nothin’ to eat
And the obese milkin’ welfare
Well, God, if you’re 5-foot-3 and you’re 300 pounds
Taxes ought not to pay for your bags of fudge rounds

The problem stems from the fact that most people have simply given up on autonomy or communities/families/churches directly supporting one another.   We’d prefer to have a central bureaucracy mismanage all of our money and yield terrible returns on it.

We depend on the government to take care of the poor or the elderly or the crippled because we don’t want to get our hands dirty.

We willingly send our children to public indoctrination camps for 12+ years of their early childhood because we think we don’t know what’s best for our own.  And we don’t hold schools responsible for failing to prepare anyone for adulthood, careers, or simple life skills.

We beg the government to plan our retirements for us because we’re either too lazy, short-sighted, or too ignorant to do it on our own.

We eat terribly, don’t exercise, and don’t get enough rest and we wonder why our healthcare system is so out of whack, run by monopolies, and treating symptoms rather than the sources of our ills.

We’re happy to Stand with ___(countless, questionable foreign countries)__, sending them trillions of dollars of our money because we feel the need to police the world.  Again, with zero accountability or exit strategy.

We think governments actually build roads when 100% of them are built by private contractors using tax dollars.

The only way to fix the problem of Inflation, rising taxation, and corruption in the government is to stop begging it to solve all of our problems.  We need to learn to become self-sufficient, demanding more from ourselves rather than turning a “not my job” response to the needs around us.  We need to stop buying into all of the government’s boogeyman schemes that attempt to divide and pit us up against each other.
